Ex. Fred Haise

Apollo 13 Flown Gold Robbins Medallion Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Fred Haise, with LOA. A 32mm 14K gold medal, one of only five produced for crewmembers of the mission. Due to the last minute crew change and the problems that prohibited Apollo 13 from accomplishing its mission, all of the original flown medallions were melted down. This is one of five newly-designed gold medallions that were struck from the flown metal. The design features the mission insignia depicting the name of the mission, three of Apollo's chariot horses flying toward the Moon, and the slogan "Ex Luna, Scientia" ("from the moon, knowledge"). The reverse features the names of the crewmembers, the modules, Aquarius (lunar) and Odyssey (command), the engraved dates of launch and return, and the 14K and Robbins hallmarks, attached loop at top. An exceedingly rare artifact from one of the most storied flights in the history of the Apollo program. Excellent.

Included is a signed COA from Haise that states: "This gold Robbins Medallion was one of five that were carried around the Moon on the April 11-17, 1970 flight of Apollo 13. I gave the two that I had to my mother and wife. Jim Lovell had two and Jack one for his mother as he was not married.

At just under 56 hours into the Mission, an oxygen tank explosion resulted in a major loss of electrical power to the Command and Service Module. This event caused a scrub of our Lunar landing and forced us to move into the Lunar Module Aquarius to survive a four day journey around the Moon and return to Earth.

The Mission is a historic survival story that was fostered by training and teamwork to overcome a great challenge. Many individuals from NASA and our contractor team worked around the clock to ensure our safe return. This drama was captured in the Ron Howard directed Hollywood Move Apollo 13."

An incredibly desirable and beautiful flown memento and only the second of which has ever been offered at auction.
