Description

NASA Hydrogen Peroxide Reaction Control Six Pound Thruster by Walter Kidde & Company. A precision-engineered six-pound-thrust hydrogen peroxide monopropellant thruster, manufactured by Walter Kidde & Company, Inc., one of NASA's key propulsion subcontractors during the early space age. Measuring 8" long, the unit is labeled: "6 LB. THRUST UNIT ASSY. H2O2 AXIAL THRUST / OPR. VOLT 18-30 DC / OPR. PRESS. 350 PSI / PART NO. 896281 / CONT. NO. NAS 3-21495 / WALTER KIDDE & CO., BELLEVILLE, N.J." The thruster is constructed of polished stainless steel and nickel alloy components, with a perforated cooling jacket surrounding the main chamber, a compact conical nozzle, and integral electrical feed lines for valve actuation. A fine example of mid-century U.S. small-spacecraft propulsion hardware. Very fine.
