Description
Hubble Telescope Fixed Head Star Tracker AFT Shroud Door Mold. Measuring 31" x 44" this tooling mold was used in the manufacturing of the Aft Shroud Door housing the Fixed Head Star Tracker (FHST) for the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The FHST is one of Hubble's primary instruments for attitude control, allowing precise orientation and stable imaging while in orbit. The mold's recessed contours directly match the housing shape of the FHST aperture seen on flown Hubble hardware. Artifacts from the Hubble Space Telescope program, particularly directly tied to structural fabrication for science-critical systems, are exceedingly rare. As NASA's most celebrated orbital observatory, Hubble changed humanity's view of the universe. This mold is a direct link to the engineering behind that revolution. Acquired directly from the Goddard Space Flight Center, with accompanying original blueprints.
