Description

Apollo-Soyuz Test Project Flown Command/Service Module to Docking Module Umbilical Cord Directly from the Estate of NASA Legend Chris Kraft, on Wooden Plaque, with Certificate of Authenticity. A heavy-duty insulated cable, partially wrapped in Beta cloth, with a large multi-pin connector at each end, left side marked "P12/ DM", the right "P27/ CSM". The overall length (with bend, as mounted) is 12.75" long x 5". It is mounted to a 14" x 6.75" x 0.75" wooden plaque bearing an engraved plate reading:

THIS CM-DM UMBILICAL UNITED THE SPACECRAFT ON THE APOLLO-SOYUZ FLIGHT AND IS PRESENTED TO DR. CHRISTOPHER KRAFT IN APPRECIATION FOR HIS TIRELESS EFFORTS IN UNITING THE ELEMENTS OF MANNED SPACE FLIGHT PROGRAMS SINCE THEIR INCEPTION

Included with the lot is an original photocopy (with envelope) of a NASA Form 1180 titled "Request for ASTP Hardware" where a group of expendable ASTP flown components are requested to make plaques such as this one. The plaque is excellent with only a couple minor scratches. Document fine. A very rare piece from the last Apollo spacecraft to ever fly. This item was kept by Kraft in the west bookshelf of his office at home.
