Description

"Duplicate Of The LM Sublimator That Kept You Cool On Apollo 13"

Apollo Lunar Module Sublimator Presented to Fred Haise by Hamilton Standard with Signed Letter of Authenticity. An incredible piece of hardware that is identical to those used on lunar landing missions. Measuring 12" x 8" x 3.75" and constructed with a stainless steel exterior, the sublimator was crucial for managing the spacecraft's thermal environment. The sublimator was part of the LM's environmental control system. Its primary function was to regulate the internal temperature of the Lunar Module by dissipating excess heat generated by the astronauts and onboard equipment. Affixed to the top is a metal plate that states: "Fred Haise/ In Appreciation Of Your/ Participation In/ The Hamilton Standard/ 'Open House'/ October 8 1978/ This Sublimator Is a Duplicate/ Of The LM Sublimator That/ Kept You Cool On Apollo 13." It is mounted to a 14.5" x 10" x 2" wooden base. An incredibly unique item and the first of these that Heritage has offered. Obtaining a piece of Lunar Module hardware directly from the personal collection of a Lunar Module Pilot is a great opportunity. Age related wear, very fine.
