Description
Apollo Lunar Module External Equipment Bay Deployment Lever. An intricate, swing-arm assembly, 5.5" x 4.25" x 2.25" in overall size. Red printed part numbers shown on the front are: "LDW340 M10500-2" and "LDW340 52211-3". There is at least one inspection stamp. The original Grumman part tag is still attached showing that it was flight-ready, waiting for assignment to a lunar module. This titanium-framed, steel-interior lever system had multiple locking fail-safes, to prevent it opening up from the Lunar Module Descent Stage and jamming the LM inside its casing, (or worse), spilling rock hammers and other heavy equipment on top of Saturn rocket's upper propellant tank during high G-force acceleration. The device was designed to for an easy release in a three-step sequence of pushing and pulling, by a hand in a bulky space suit glove. Excellent condition.
