Description
Apollo Lunar Module Armrest Damper Mechanism. This part, 5.75" x 3" x 1.625" in overall size, still carries its original attached Grumman part tag. Part numbers printed in red on various areas include: "LDW340M10751-1", "LDW340M10756-1", "LDW340M10750-3", and "LDW340 21204-3/ SN23". There are also assorted inspector stamps and a "Cure" date of "?Q66". Each astronaut in the lunar module had two armrests. Two of these energy-absorbing dampers were mounted on each armrest to support the astronaut as the lunar module landed on the moon. This piece of equipment, flight-ready and about to be either assigned to a LM or shelved as a back-up spare, was rescued from scrapping in 1985. Original, pre-mated washers and other pieces of steel in-lay (some with original restraining wires) are still attached. Excellent condition.
