Description
Apollo Command Module Environmental Control System Hardware: Steam Duct Pressure Transducer, AiResearch Part 837036 (Contract NAS-9-150). A metal box, 4.625" (overall) x 1.5" x 2.75", with a multi-pin electrical connector and a screw-on pressure connector on opposite ends. A metal ID plate along one side presents the following data: "Consolidated Controls Corp./ Bethel Connecticut/ Transducer, Pressure/ CCC Part No. 41PD24-4/ Date of Mfg. 10/66/ Mfg'd for Airesearch Per 837036-1-1/ [Serial No] 0009211". The top metal plate is not present and the internal components and potting are visible. Included are several pages copied from a 1973 abstract prepared by AiResearch for the NASA MSC titled "Environmental Control System Transducer Development Study". It reads, in part: "The initial design of steam duct pressure transducer PN 837036 was implemented on the Apollo Block I and Block II ECS. Because of numerous failures this design was superseded by a new design, PN 836706, which was implemented on Apollo Block II ECS. The pressure transducer, in the Apollo ECS application, measures the static pressure of the fluid in the glycol and suit evaporator steam discharge duct. The fluid pressure serves as an indication of the effectiveness of the evaporative cooling process in the ECS. The transducer is located in the steam discharge duct immediately downstream of the junction of the glycol evaporator and the suit evaporator outlets. This transducer converts a signal corresponding to the sensed pressure into a proportional electrical signal used for telemetry purposes or visual display."
