Official Soviet world record claims for First Human Spacewalk, made to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI)

World with the Exit of a Human into Outer Space on the
Spacecraft-Satellite Voskhod-2, March 18-19, 1965,
Signed by Belyayev and Leonov. (Moscow: Federation of Aviation
Sports of the USSR, 1965). A 9" x 12" book in brown leatherette,
gilt-lettered in Russian only on the cover with state Soviet crest.
Inside covers in silk moiré. Printed on heavy cream stock, each
page within a decorative border. Text all in Russian. Complete with
printed record sheets and tipped-in color portraits of each
cosmonaut. Thirty-three numbered pages plus title page and numerous
pages bearing mounted photos including a number taken during
Leonov's landmark walk in space. Signed by numerous Soviet
officials and twice by the crew. Excellent.This extraordinary official volume documents the record certification of the historic Voskhod-2 space mission, during which Alexei Arkhipovich Leonov performed the first human spacewalk (EVA) on March 18, 1965, under the command of Pavel Ivanovich Belyayev. The dossier includes multiple printed reports, mission program details, technical summaries, and photographic documentation. Among the pages are facsimile signatures of both cosmonauts, Leonov and Belyayev, as well as those of Federation officials certifying the flight's record status. Included are: An official certification act confirming the spacecraft's weighing and mission readiness; the mission program, specifying each cosmonaut's duties, including Leonov's extravehicular activity, communications with Earth, and physiological tests during and after EVA; a detailed post-flight report signed by Leonov, summarizing the spacewalk and its successful conclusion, affirming the viability of human activity in open space, multiple photographs including an image of the two cosmonauts in their "Berkut" suits before launch, and a sequence of twelve black-and-white images showing Leonov's historic EVA.
The Voskhod-2 mission represented one of the Soviet Union's most daring technological achievements of the early space age. On March 18, 1965, Leonov exited the spacecraft through an inflatable airlock, floating freely in space for over twelve minutes, a feat never before attempted by humanity. The mission's success was tempered by extreme challenges: Leonov's suit ballooned in vacuum, making re-entry into the airlock nearly impossible, and the spacecraft later landed hundreds of kilometers off course in the Ural wilderness.
