Description

Exceptionally rare

V-2 Test Flight Number Twelve Report, Dated March 1943 and Signed by Wernher von Braun. An absolutely outstanding original report on eight 8.25" x 11.75" pages. Dated March 4, 1943 with "Geheime Kommandosache" stamped across top which translates to "Secret Command", this is a truly significant piece of rocketry history. Contains great detail regarding a test flight of the V-2 at the secret German "Peenemunde" rocket research station, and from the famous Prüfstand VII (Test Stand VII). The cover page contains various technical data including test name ("Preliminary Fire Report A4 V12"), dimensions and weight (Length: 14M, Caliber: 1.65m, Curb Weight: 3840 kg, Take-off weight 3857 kg) among other details. One interesting section of the cover pages features the following: "Constructive information: Compared to V-11 the following noteworthy changes have been made. Dummy payload tip with cast steel ground. Instead of list plugs. Pressure contacts were installed in the rear foot. Series pump for the first time."

Other pages within the report have similar fascinating text including: "Measurements during the flight: The course of the flight is followed by the cinetheodolites, ground film and the doubler (Folman device) to determine location and orbital velocity. The speed of the pump, the thruster deflections for rudders 1 and 3, the guide beam field strength and the rotation of the gyro in the spin plane are transmitted to the ground station with the high- value transmitter. Bench Tests: The tuning of the V12 was carried out on test stand VII with 5 spray tests, the function test of the drive and the control with 3 combustion tests. Findings: For the first time since V4, the twist in the free flight path is no longer controlled in the V12. The twist after burnout is nevertheless goring and is only slightly more uneven than with a twist controlled free flight path, as can be seen from the measured value record the Bawn field strength and from the Wolman measurement."

Other pages contain an original photo of the rocket as well as technical charts. The third page does feature an early von Braun signature in blue ink. An incredibly important document that contains valuable information that von Braun would undoubtedly use later when developing for NASA. Would be a great addition to any collection. Pages have age related wear/toning and one chart is separated. Very good.
