Description
Luna 2 Titanium Pendants (Two) in a presentation box signed by Sergei Korolev, with the U.S.S.R. symbol and date of Luna 2, September 1959. These two Luna 2 titanium pendants made up part of the large exploding ball that hit the moon in September 1959. The pendants are housed in a wooden box lined with blue velveteen cloth and were awarded on the 50th birthday of Chief Rocket Designer Alexander Davidovich Nadiradze after he was named general designer of his organization, OKB-52. Nadiradze was one of the twelve members of the collective Experimental Central Committee (ETsK).The hand written inscription occurs over a photo of the moon in the top of the wooden case and reads, "To Alexander Davidovich Nadiradze on his 50th anniversary, from the Collective ETsK,(a red star marks the place of Luna 2 impact on the moon), 20th of August 1964 signature of Sergei Pavlovich Korolev." Korolev only gave a few of these as mementos for participation in the first rocket flights. These pendants are extremely rare and were highly prized by the recipients. The presentation box is 3.5" x 5" x 1.25"; all items in excellent condition.
