Description

Ex. Alan Bean

Apollo 12 Crew-Signed "Type Two" Signed and Certified Insurance Cover, from Mission Lunar Module Pilot Alan Bean's Family Collection, with Certificate of Authenticity. A philatelic cover with the 10¢ "First Man on the Moon" (Scott #C76) stamp affixed, bearing a pictorial machine cancellation from Kennedy Space Center dated November 14, 1969, the day that Apollo 12 was launched. The color cachet features the mission insignia. It has been boldly signed in black felt tip: "C Conrad Jr", "Dick Gordon", and "Alan L Bean". Signed on the verso: "Insurance cover from my collection/ Alan Bean/ Apollo 12 LMP". Starting with Apollo 11, the astronaut crews would all sign a certain quantity of these covers to be left on Earth as a contingency against their failing to return safely from the moon. In the case of a tragedy, the covers would be sold with the proceeds benefiting their families, not unlike an insurance policy. Excellent. From the estate of Moonwalker and Artist Alan Bean.
