Description
NASA Test Pilot Flight Suit Worn by Robert Sommer. Ex-Navy pilot Robert W. Sommer used this flight suit during NASA test flights of jet fighters, circa 1957-1965. Mustard yellow flight suit made of coarse cotton, with numerous zippered pockets and Velcro attachments; embroidered NASA patch on chest. Made by Kings Point Manufacturing Co. of Fayetteville, NC. Following his years as a test pilot, Sommer went on to become a researcher at the Langley Aeronautical Laboratory. Flight suit is in surprisingly nice condition with no obvious wear or damage.
