Description
Gemini 12 Crew-Signed Splashdown Cover. A philatelic cover with a thermographically-printed two color "Recovery By The U.S.S. Wasp" cachet, bearing a 5¢ "We Appreciate Our Servicemen" stamp hand-canceled at Cape Canaveral on November 15, 1966. It features nice large signatures: "Buzz Aldrin" (black felt tip) and "James Lovell" (blue ballpoint). Quite uncommon. Unaddressed. Very fine. Included, for purposes of display or matting, is a glossy color print of the crew in flight suits, pre-mission.Gemini 12, launched on November 11, 1966, was the final mission of NASA's Gemini program. Commanded by James A. Lovell Jr. with pilot Edwin E. "Buzz" Aldrin, the mission achieved a successful docking with the Agena target vehicle and demonstrated critical extravehicular activity (EVA) techniques, with Aldrin completing multiple spacewalks that validated improved EVA procedures. The spacecraft splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean on November 15, 1966, just 4 miles from the planned recovery point. The primary recovery ship, the USS Wasp, quickly retrieved the crew and spacecraft, marking a smooth and triumphant conclusion to the Gemini program. From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke.
