Description

Commemorative Space Program Stamp Design Print Signed by 15 Astronauts. A beautiful framed display piece, 11.5" x 8.75" matted, and framed to an overall size of 16.5" x 13.75". A veritable "who's who" of astronauts have signed the piece, including three of the original Mercury Seven astronauts and the first man on the moon. Clockwise from top left are the following signatures: "Michael Collins", "Alan B Shepard", "Ron Evans", "Wally Schirra", "Gene Cernan", "James Lovell", "Charles Conrad", "Jack Swigert", "Neil Armstrong", "Alan Shepard" (again), "Walt Cunningham", "John Glenn", "John Young", "Richard F. Gordon Jr.", "Donn F. Eisele", and "Harrison Schmitt". Of these signatures, the Armstrong, Swigert, Cernan, Schmitt, Evans, Glenn, and the Shepard at bottom right are authentically signed. The Shepard at top left is secretarial. All other signatures are autopens. The design of the stamp itself is sobering, showing Roger Chaffee, Ed White, and Gus Grissom (the three astronauts killed in the Apollo 1 fire) in peaceful meditation beneath a clouded moon. Surrounding them is a quote from Alfred, Lord Tennyson's poem "Ulysses", which reads "Come, My Friends, 'Tis Not Too Late To Seek A, Newer World,..." Light creasing in a few places, and a small stain over part of one of the Alan Shepard signatures, but overall in fine condition. A beautiful display piece for any fan of space exploration.
