Apollo 8 "A Christmas Eve Prayer From Lunar Orbit" First Day Presentation Signed by Frank Borman, Neil Armstrong, and the Crew of Apollo 14. The text of the prayer Frank Borman read from lunar orbit in 1968 along with the Biblical text from Genesis Chapter One as read by the crew, all handsomely presented on parchment-like paper, 11" x 8" in size. A 6ยข "Apollo 8" stamp has been affixed and First Day cancelled in Houston on May 5, 1969. Five astronauts have signed in various inks at the left side: "Frank Borman", "Alan Shepard", "Stuart A Roosa", "Ed Mitchell/ Apollo XIV", and "Neil Armstrong". A unique and inspirational item, perfect for display and with plenty of room for additional signatures to be added. Excellent.Apollo 8 Commander Frank Borman attended St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Seabrook, Texas. He had been scheduled to participate in a Christmas service there but couldn't because of the timing of the mission. Fellow parishioner and Mission Control engineer Rod Rose suggested that he read a prayer from lunar orbit that could be recorded and played back during the church service. During the third pass in front of the moon, Borman said the following:
"To Rod Rose and the people of St. Christopher's, actually to people everywhere -
Give us, O God, the vision which can see thy love in the world in spite of human failure.
Give us the faith to trust thy goodness in spite of our ignorance and weakness.
Give us the knowledge that we may continue to pray with understanding hearts.
And show us what each one of us can do to set forward the coming of the day of universal peace.
Amen."
