Description

Apollo 11 Crew-Signed Moon Landing Cover Obtained Just Days after Their Exit from Quarantine. A 6.5" x 3.625" philatelic cover with a handsome Orbit Covers cachet honoring "Man's First Moon Landing." An 8ยข "Apollo 8" stamp is tied to the cover with a Cape Canaveral cancellation dated July 20, 1969, the day Apollo 11 landed on the moon. Neat and clear signatures of all three crewmembers are placed in the lower right area: Commander "Neil Armstrong", Command Module Pilot "M Collins", and Lunar Module Pilot "Buzz Aldrin". This was obtained by reporter and cover collector Norm Gruenzner and his signed statement is included: "The autographs of the Apollo Eleven astronauts were obtained by me just before they appeared on CBS's 'Face The Nation' program with Walter Cronkite. The program was broadcast live from the studio's of Channel 11 in Houston, Texas. The cover was signed by the men in front of me." This would have been the August 17, 1969, broadcast of the leading Sunday morning news program of the era when Walter Cronkite interviewed the American heroes live on the air. Excellent condition.
