Description

Gordon Cooper Signed Book with Handwritten Last Lines from The Right Stuff Movie: This New Ocean. A History of Project Mercury. By Lloyd S. Swenson, Jr., James M. Grimwood, and Charles C. Alexander. (Washington, D.C.: NASA, 1966). Part of the NASA Historical Series (SP-4201). On the free front endpaper, Gordon has written in black ink: "On a glorious day in May 1963/ I flew the Faith 7 spacecraft/ higher and farther than any other/ Mercury astronaut, making me for this/ day, the world's greatest pilot/ anyone ever saw!: Gordon Cooper". This is a condensation of the closing narration from the 1983 film in which Dennis Quaid portrayed Cooper. Rare as such. Publisher's original hardcover binding, octavo, 681 pages, illustrated. Fine.
