Description

Five years along

Wilbur Wright Signed "La Conquette de L'Air" Postcard from Le Mans, France, 1908. A 5.5" x 3.5" collotype photographic postcard picturing Wilbur Wright piloting his plane. He has signed in fountain pen on the roof of the barn below: "Wilbur Wright". The French inscription at the top translates to:

"The Conquest Of The Air / The Airplane of the American Aviator Wright at the start of the glide flight where he will fly / a distance of 10 kilometers, at an average height of 20 meters."

This was just five years after Orville's first-ever flight. The brothers were now celebrities, touring Europe and conducting exhibitions of their ever-improving planes. Autographically, Wilbur is a large factor rarer than his brother, especially on such a choice piece. Tape stain at top, otherwise fine.
