Description

The engine that powered the "Flying Fortress."

Vintage B-17 "Wright Cyclone" Engine Coffee Table. An original Wright R-1820-97 "Cyclone" turbosupercharged radial engine that has been converted into an approximately 63" x 43" glass top table. The B-17, which was often referred to as the "Flying Fortress", had four of these engines which gave it the power and redundancy needed for long-range missions. The B-17 was widely used in World War II and typically carried a crew of ten members: pilot, co-pilot, bombardier, navigator, flight engineer/top turret gunner, radio operator, and four additional gunners. The table top is where the propellor would have been and is supported by six attached metal posts. A unique opportunity to obtain an engine that powered one of the most iconic aircraft from World War II, remembered for its rugged resilience and its key role in the Allied strategic bombing campaign. Has been painted and refurbished for display. Would be a great additon to any office, game room, and any aviation collection. Some paint loss to base of the shaft and scratches to base of table. Displays very well, fine. Custom shipping will be required.
