Description

Three Pancho Barnes Photographs, Two Signed. Aviatrix Florence Lowe "Pancho" Barnes (1901-1975) is shown in three different images, each 13" x 10", with one of her planes during the early 1930s. Two of these photos are respectively inscribed "To the boy that made the air races etc from his friend! Sincerely Pancho" and "To Cliff from Pancho". The recipient was, of course, aviation entrepreneur Cliff Henderson. Excellent condition. Pancho Barnes was by any standard one of the most spirited women of the 20th century. Born wealthy, she devoted the earlier part of her life to adventure, non-conformity and, well, having some serious fun. Flying became her niche and Pancho Barnes advanced quickly from barnstorming to racing to record-setting. Interestingly, her grandfather, whom she knew as a child, was Union Army balloonist Professor Thaddeus Lowe. From the collection of Cliff Henderson.
