Description
Charlie Duke: Signed First Pilot Log Book, USAF 1957, from his Personal Collection. A 7.25" x 4.25" hardbound book, Pilot Flight Record and Log Book with dozens of log entries for Duke's training flights in T-33, T-28, and T-34 aircraft between September 3, 1957, and September 17, 1958. He has written on the title page: "This is my very first log book as I began USAF flight training in September 1957 Charlie Duke Apollo 16". Duke, of course, went on to become the youngest man to ever walk on the moon, one of only twelve to ever do so. Very fine condition.Included with this lot is a handwritten and signed Letter of Authenticity from Charles M. Duke, Jr. on his personal letterhead stating, in part: "[This] is my very first log book of my flying career. It covers the time when I first began USAF Basic Flying Training in the summer of 1957 until after I received my wings in 1958. It shows that my first solo occurred shortly before the Russian space craft, Sputnik, was launched..."
