Engraved London Boss & Co. Double Barrel Shotgun.Serial no. 6996, 12 gauge, 28-inch blued barrels with fixed front bead sight. Elaborately scroll engraved case-hardened receiver marked: BOSS & CO. Scroll engraved, blue finished, receiver and lever. Finely checkered walnut straight stock and splinter fore-end. Oval brass escutcheon to base of stock. Dual triggers. Checkered butt. Length of pull: 14 7/8-inches. Weight: 6-pounds, 12-ounces. Note: According to research, "Boss & Co. was founded in 1812 by Thomas Boss, who apprenticed under his gunmaker father, William, from 1804-1812, while working with Joseph Manton. Thomas left Manton in 1816 to set himself up as an independent gunmaker." Boss manufactures some of the world's finest shotguns and rifles. Over 10,000 have been manufactured to date, according to records. Last time checked, Boss & Co. delivery times for new guns were approximately 3 years. Condition: Good. Retaining approximately 94-96% finish with thinning to muzzle, scattered signs of handling wear and fine patches of pitting. Scuffs and scratches present to stock. Action crisp. Bright bores.
