Description

S. Sutherland Double Barrel Percussion Shotgun.

Unserialized, 12 gauge, 31 1/2-inch barrels with fixed front bead sight. Top of barrel marked: S. SUTHERLAND RICHMOND, VA, accented in gilt. Elaborately scroll and game scene engraved receiver, each side reading: S. SUTHERLAND. Checkered walnut straight stock and splinter fore-end. Metal buttplate. Brass tipped wood ramrod.
Together with an old "The Weicker Transfer & Storage Co." tag from Denver. Note: Samuel Sutherland was known as the "Armorer of the South", after the war in June or July 1865, he moved to Baltimore, MD. See Confederate Arms by Albaugh, pages 266-267.

Condition: Good. Finish a dark grey patina with noticeable signs of age, handling wear and surface rust. Heavy bruising, scuffs and dings present to wood. Action needs adjustment. Moderately pitted bores.
