Cased Ornate 12 Gauge Schwartz Brothers Boxlock Ejector Double Barrel Shotgun. Serial no. 15054. 12 gauge. 27 ½-inch Krupp steel barrels with concave matted rib. Rib with insert base with two folding leaf sights. Spear front sight. Floral relief engraved 2 ½-inch panels on each barrel at the breech. Rear of rib with similar engraving. Blued boxlock action with ornate deep floral engraving. Ejectors. Non-automatic safety. Hidden third fastener. Side clips. Ornately carved and finely checkered Prince of Wales stock of highly figured walnut. Carving at head of stock and rear of grip, is floral with leaves and bouquet. Cheekpiece with carved border. Vacant gold shield. Triggerguard engraved with: Maison Fondee 1660 / Schwartz Freres Mersch (Lux bg) Arms de Roi D Pays . Bas / Fermeture Purdey on Anson Deley. Lettering is not to the quality of the rest of the gun. Modern recoil pad. Splinter fore-end ornately carved and checkered in the same pattern with Anson-style release. Large gold medalion with initials in center of fore-end. Modern trunk case with fleece lining. Note: The triggerguard inscription is translated as follows: Schwartz Brothers, Mersch, Luxembourg, founded in 1660, with Purdey locking system and a Anson and Deeley action. Maker of arms to Kings. Data: Barrel Dimensions: Bores 0.727/0.726 inches. Chokes: 0.024/0.033 inches. Chambers: 2 ¾ inches. Minimum wall thickness: 0.030 inches. Proof: Belgian, Black Powder, 17.8/18.3, 17.5/18.3. Stock Dimensions: Pull: 15 inches. Drop at comb: 1 ½ inches. Drop at heel: 2 ½ inches. Cast: None. Weight: 7 pounds, 5 ounces. Condition: Excellent, as partially redone. Barrels show 94-96% bluing with some wear of the engraving on the barrels. Left barrel shows slight bulges and a dent on the underside. Action and barrels show looseness. Action shows 98% bluing with some losses to the edges of the engraving. Triggerguard tang shows a silver patina. Stock shows a recoated finish with a few light marks. Small shrinkage crack on cheekpiece. Fore-end shows a very few very light marks.
