Description

18th Century Spanish Colonial Short Sword or Cuttoe. 28" overall, the very heavy, slightly curved 22ΒΌ" blade with chamfered back edge, decorated with engraved leaf/ vine motif. Blade with deep dark patina and some light to medium pitting for the last 5" toward the tip. Iron basket type hilt with two separately affixed branches. The cup is lined with red wool about 2/3 of which remains. Fluted cylindrical bone grip, the pommel with a capstan. The underside of the guard utilizes a rudimentary pas d'ane one side of which terminates in a bird's head, the other side is plain, not showing any sign of being broken. An interesting sword, of obviously great age.
