Description

US Model 1833 Dragoon Saber Ames 1837 34" quillback blade smooth and gray with just a few very minor nicks. Marked on the obverse at the base of the blade in engraved script "N.P.Ames / Cutler / Springfield / 1837" and on the reverse horizontally "United States" above a sprig of oak leaves. Retains its original leather washer. Brass hilt with deep patina slightly bent but easily restored, retains clear inspector stamps. Bare wood grip with 3/4" section of wood replaced below pommel, twisted brass wire excellent. Scabbard dark with areas of surface rust pitted at throat, untouched with 2 dents at the lower end. A nice representative example of a scarce saber
