Description

C. 1850 American Full Stock Percussion Rifle. Although unsigned probably west central Pennsylvania. 38" full octagon .45 caliber deeply rifled barrel, 1" across the flats. Deep dark smooth patina with excellent bore. German silver blade front sight, V notch rear sight. Just some pitting in the area of the breech/drum. All brass furniture including 1" extension on butt plate heel and 2 1/4" toe plate. Unembellished oval patch box. Unmarked back action lock, single trigger. Mechanically fine with a small cut out beneath the lock to permit lubrication. Full maple stock excellent, retaining most of the original dark finish, just showing customary wear on forestock and edges and a few scattered scuffs. Nicely moulded cheek piece. Just a tiny chip at the patchbox finial, a small chip beneath the lock at the drum and a sliver on the right side of the barrel tang. Retains what appears to be the original artificially striped ramrod. Very nice untouched example of this form that was prominent in the second half of the 19th century.
