Description

William Jennings Bryan: The Iconic "Octopus" Poster from the 1900. Measuring 19 1/2" x 29 1/8" [sight] stone lithograph by the renowned Strobridge Lithography Co. of Cincinnati, Copyright 1900 by Neville Williams, Columbus, Ohio. This colorful and evocative poster is considered by many to be the pinnacle of political poster lithography from this golden era. "No crown of thorns.... no cross of gold" it proclaims, while Bryan is surrounded by rich imagery: the Statue of Liberty being hailed by liberated Cubans and Filipinos; a plow and hammer symbolizing American agriculture; the Liberty Bell; a figure of Justice; and a silver dollar and gold coin, representations of the 16-to-1 monetary issue. Most compelling is the image of Lady Liberty, wielding an ax, chopping at the octopus of "trusts" which ensnares in its tentacles representations of major American industries.

Condition: The poster's appearance is clean, bright, and without flaws. Colors remain bold and vibrant. Properly archivally framed and ready to hang in a handsome decorative hardwood with a double mat which further compliments the presentation, overall size is 27" x 37". Not examined out of frame. A superb example!
