Description
Stephen Douglas: Large and Attractive Parade Flag. 28" x 16" glazed cotton campaign flag inscribed in blue: "For President, Stephen A. Douglas. For Vice President, Hershel V. Johnson." The canton has 36 stars arranged in a somewhat random pattern. Light, normal aging with two small areas of loss in the blank hoist area, resulting from previous attachment to a stick. Douglas is invariably linked to Lincoln, based on the Senatorial debates of 1858 in Illinois which overshadow the real prize, the Presidency in 1860. Douglas flags of any type are rare and desirable. They stand on their own, but certainly make a significant contribution to any display of Lincoln material.Auction Info
