Description
Samuel Tilden: Prohibitively Rare Portrait Flag. 13.5" x 8.5" glazed cotton flag with portrait of the 1876 Democrat in the canton, surrounded by 39 stars. The stripes bear the inscription "Tilden and Hendricks". We are aware of only one other Tilden portrait flag, formerly in the collection of David & Janice Frent. An important piece.Condition: Overall wrinkling, line of vertical ink stains left of middle. One small burn hole in the portrait field. Some light damp stains. Fully intact.
