Description
Lincoln & Hamlin: Graphic Name Flag. This quintessential 1860 campaign artifact measures 16.5" x 11" and has the names of the Republican candidates in large, bold letters that curve up and down. Unlike traditional flags, the canton is positioned in the upper right corner and contains a five-pointed star pattern with single stars between each point, for a grand total of thirty-three stars. It is listed in Threads as Number 296 and made of glazed cotton. This very design was produced and available at the Wigwam Convention when the nominations were finalized, and no doubt distributed up until election day. The colors are strong. There is some light wear and soiling. There is one small interior tear in the first two letters of "Hamlin" and a semi-circular tear above the "O" in "Lincoln", covered with some sort of resin. Overall, it is a very nice example that has a lot going for it.Auction Info
