Description

John C. Frémont: Rare and Impressive Campaign Flag. Unlisted in Threads, which only shows two Frémont name flags altogether. Of the three name flags known, it is the only one that lists the offices sought. 24" x 16" glazed cotton flag inscribed "For President, John C. Fremont. For Vice President William L. Dayton." Most unusual pattern of 31 stars in the canton (a six-pointed star). Some faint damp stains with light-to-moderate aging which is inconsequential, in our opinion, as it reflects on the age of the piece and just adds "character". One small hole next to the "T" in "Fremont". Handsomely double-matted and ready for framing. The large size and the historical importance of Frémont as the first Republican candidate make it special.
