Description

Henry Clay: Large Portrait Flag. Certainly among the largest political flags produced, the actual dimensions of this marvelous example is 27.5" x 49", featuring a terrific bold Clay portrait in the 15.5" x 17.75" canton. The flag has an excellent display presence, however, there are a few small condition issues that must be mentioned. Most notable among these is about a 2" tear with some fabric loss that has received a tape repair on the reverse between the letters "L" and "N" in "Frelinghuysen." This flaw is easily missed at first glance due to its location, and the fact that the letters themselves are completely unaffected. There is also a small 1" long tear with minor loss next to the "A" in "Clay," this is a small problem easily addressed by selecting an appropriate color of background material when framing. There are a few other minor holes and separations along that same general right edge area of the flag. Lastly, stitched to the top edge are a few black felt tabs (or loops) which were presumed used to slide a small wood dowel through to suspend the flag for display. These could be easily removed if one wished. All that having been said, the flag is amazingly free of stains and presents extremely beautifully! No minimum bid. From the J.Doyle Dewitt Collection.
