Description
Andrew Jackson: War of 1812 Bandanna. American victories in the War of 1812 are shown throughout this 24" x 22" cotton bandanna. The most decisive of these engagements was The Battle of New Orleans which took place on January 7, 1815, weeks after the Treaty of Ghent, ending the war, had been signed. It is the central image on this rare textile produced by Scottish printer C. Gray, listed as Threads #48. It is titled "The Glorious Victory of New Orleans." A key at the bottom identifies ten elements, such as "General Jackson Leading His Troops to Victory". Six of the seven surrounding vignettes depict naval actions. The condition is outstanding. It is loosely mounted to a board, held in place on the border with old, red cloth tape. Some of this tape has dried out and is starting to peel away and is likely removable. We have not attempted to do so, as it displays quite well and a frame will cover most of it in any event.Auction Info
