Description

An American Centennial Parade Pennant (1876). A Centennial-era patriotic parade banner, printed on cotton and measuring approximately 17 1/4" x 27 1/4". The design features a bold red oval with the inscription "CENTENNIAL 1776-1876," flanked by stars, and enclosed within a distinctive star-decorated border forming a pennant-like outline. Presumably bears 37 printed stars.

Produced for the 1876 Centennial celebrations, this example reflects the graphic and text-driven style of period political and commemorative textiles, combining bold typography with patriotic motifs to mark the nation's 100th anniversary.

Condition: Complete area of loss on the top tail. Damp staining and soiling scattered throughout. Vertical 1 1/2" tear near bottom margin of the hoist. Moderate area of loss to the top edge. Wrinkling present throughout.

Estimated value: $400-$800
