Description

[Millard Fillmore] Know Nothing Bandana. Threads of History #242, 28" x 32" silk, printed in blue and two shades of red. The central device shows a small disc labeled "K N 1776." superimposed on a radiating star surrounded by smaller stars with the names of the original thirteen colonies. This was likely inspired by the design used by Martha Washington for her personal china. Founding Father George Washington served as a guiding light for this movement of the 1850s. Some fraying to the edges with minor loss, mounted to board. Generally in excellent condition for an artifact of this age and delicate nature. The border is populated with eagles, shields, and agricultural motifs. No minimum bid. From the J.Doyle Dewitt Collection.
