Description

[Abraham Lincoln Assassination] Silk Flag Bunting from the Presidential Box at Ford's Theater the Night of the Assassination. The piece is accompanied by a lot listing and receipt from The Rail Splitter and a sheet reading, "Collection of Elsie O. and Philip D. Sang" at the top. Handwritten in ink down the edge of the sheet is the text "Bunting From Box 7 Ford's Theater April 14, 1865- The Night Lincoln was Shot in that Box. JKL 82.87." Tastefully framed and matted to an overall size of 16.25" x 25.75", the bunting is in two separate halves and displayed vertically on cream and red-colored mats. The upper half measures 6.5" x 8.25" with the lower at 6.25" x 7.5". The red stripes are vibrant, with a cream-colored stripe down the center. The silk appears to have separated horizontally at the center. Throughout both halves are light loss and moderate staining and aging. Fraying is visible at the top and bottom edges. Though in imperfect condition, the bunting retains its vibrant reds and would display quite well. From The Collection of Dr. Blaine Houmes
