Description

John F. Kennedy: Unique 1952 Senatorial Campaign Scarf. 34" x 32" violet and cream-colored silk scarf featuring a youthful portrait of "John F. Kennedy" superimposed on the Capitol. There are four additional portraits of Kennedy in the four corners. We believe this item is one-of-a-kind. It is not pictured in the exemplary JFK reference work by Harvey Goldberg. In ascertaining its purpose and age, we considered several factors: the youthful portrait, the picturing of the Capitol in contrast to the White House, plus the existence of similar multi-portrait silk scarves produced for Eisenhower and Stevenson in the 1952 election. It is most singular to find a situation where a company that produces items for presidential candidates also makes one for a Senate candidate. This may have been a manufacturer's sample or something, by its very delicate nature, that simply has not stood the ravages of time. Given the rarity of this piece, its graphics and the paucity of material for JFK's Senate race, we feel it should generate a good deal of interest among Kennedy collectors across the country. Aside from some even fading, it is in excellent condition.
