Description

Winfield Scott: Lively Anti-Pierce Cartoon. The candidates in 1852 are lampooned in this 21" x 14" lithographed cartoon titled: "Harmony in the Wigwam! Democracy of the Right Brand-y." Most of the characters are drunk, notably Pierce and King who stand on the Democratic platform. It is inscribed: "In consequence of the Ricketty Construction of this Platform, all Barnburners, Free-Soilers & Abbolitionists are requested to Tread on it as lightly as possible." A hunker and Free-Soiler duke it out below while "Capt. Scott the great Hunter of Virginia" rides in on a donkey. It has an 1.5" border tear, light foxing and has been mounted to rag-content paper some time ago.
