Description
Horace Greeley: Paper U.S. Flag and Publisher's Subscription Book. This is a most unusual lot. It is a 4 3/4" x 7 1/4" booklet in blue, stiff, pebbled paper covers. It was issued by New York publisher E. B. Treat to promote his 1872 campaign publications and record the names of people who had ordered copies. The inside front cover has a paper flag pasted in, advertising a campaign biography of Greeley, titled at the top: "Reform Candidate For President. Hon. Horace Greeley." The last page has a tipped-in flyer for publications related to the Civil War on recto and publications related to the presidential election on verso. There are no names on the lined pages, so the salesman who owned this was a sorry salesman, indeed! No doubt, we'll make out better than he did!Auction Info
