Description

Civil War: Anti-British Slavery vs. Cotton Cartoon. Cotton was "king" during the Civil War and the British government was criticized for tolerating slavery and favoring their Southern suppliers of that necessary staple for British mills. In this 15" x 11" cartoon titled "John Bull Makes a Discovery", John Bull compares a ball of cotton with the hair of a kneeling Negro and declares: "Well, yes! it is certain that Cotton is more useful to me than Wool!!" The condition is excellent.
