Description

Abraham Lincoln: White House Funeral Admittance Card. 3 1/4" x 5" pass. Prior to the first public funeral held in Washington, D.C., Lincoln's body was displayed in the White House where a select group of guests could pay their respects in a dignified setting. Admission tickets were issued and remain a highly desirable and rare collector's item. The front is printed: "East./ Admit the Bearer to the/ Executive Mansion,/ On Wednesday, the/ 19th of April, 1865." The back side is inscribed "Mr. Lincoln's / Funeral / Hon. OH Browning" in Browning's hand.

Condition: Old mounting remnants on verso, overall fine condition.

Provenance: Lincoln's Springfield Colleague Orville H. Browning. Original Owner was a well-known Lincoln Specialist named Harry Ellsworth Barker. Letter of Authenticity from Main Street Fine Books & Manuscripts.
