Description
Abraham Lincoln: Rare 1864 Joke Book. M-335, "Old Abe's Jokes. Fresh from Abraham's Bosom Containing all his Issues, Excepting the "Greenbacks", to call in some of which, this work is issued". New York, T. R. Dawley, 140pp., 4.5" x 7.5". Originally bound in titled wraps. Rebound in stiff boards, covered with marbled paper and gilt-stamped titled spine. Lacking original covers. A scarce work, one of several "authorized" Lincoln joke books published in 1863-1864. We have not seen the "Greenback" jokes alluded to in the title. Quite scarce.Condition: Lacking original cover, age toning to pages and restoration.
