Abraham Lincoln: Fine Copy of "House Divided" Speech. M-14. "Proceedings of the Republican State Convention, held at Spingfield [sic], Illinois, June 16, 1858." 6" x 10.5", 12pp., folded sheet, uncut, Springfield, Bailhache & Baker, Printers, 1858. Lincoln delivered his famous "House Divided" speech at this convention and was nominated to run against Democrat Stephen A. Douglas in the senatorial election. M-11 is the first separate printing of the speech while this version contains not only the speech, but a report on the proceedings of the convention. The speech appears on pages 9 through 12. Practically all of the type used in the production of this pamphlet was lifted from the June 17-18 issues of the Illinois State Journal. This copy was purchased in 1954 from Goodspeed's Bookshop for $27.50.
