[George Washington]: Likely the first Newspaper ad ever placed by the 1st US President. Gazette of the United States (NY, NY), June 3, 1789, 4 pgs., 9 3/4" x 15 3/4". Newspaper contains an inside page report of the proposed salary for George Washington as the first President of the US ($20,000 per year), and $5,000 per year for John Adams as the first Vice President of the US. The issue also contains a back page ad from George Washington's household, placed by Samuel Fraunces, steward of the President. This is likely the first newspaper ad placed by a US President while in office.Condition: Disbound, else fine.
