Description

[Abraham Lincoln Assassination] Ticket to Ford's Theatre. 3.5" x 2.25" blue pasteboard or coated stock ticket inscribed: "Ford's Theatre/ Tenth Street/ Erected A. D. 1863." The simulated gold coin marks this as a $1 ticket. It is very similar to the example in the Ford's Theatre Museum. There apparently were two types of tickets issued at Ford's Theatre... this type which was issued for general admission at three different price levels and a long, narrow "Dress Circle" ticket which included a ticket stub with the assigned seat number, the day of the week (e.g., Friday or Saturday) and a date rubber stamp. This example does not come with provenance, but the back of the ticket is "skinned", indicating it was pasted in an album as a cherished keepsake, so may well have been used on the night of the assassination. Some light edge abrasions, printed slightly askew. From The Collection of Dr. Blaine Houmes
