Description

Zachary Taylor: Miniature Reverse Painting. The 1848 Whig candidate for President, Zachary Taylor, is depicted in full uniform on this 3 1/4" x 2 1/2" reverse painting on glass produced in France. The painting is in excellent condition. There is a black metal frame and the reverse side has an embossed storecard, affixed to burnt orange velvet, indicating it was produced by Antoine Lallou of Paris to commemorate Taylor's election victory. This was likely inset in an ebonized frame at some point, which it currently lacks. This actually makes it easier to display in a frame with other campaign artifacts.
