Description

John C. Fremont, et al.: Assorted Newspapers and Ephemera. A group of six newspapers, a pair of tickets for a Temperance Lecture delivered by Georgie E. Tilton, and a CDV picturing a Civil War corporal seated in a chair. Five newspapers from the "Harford Evening Press" include issues from August and September 1856. A few of these with campaign content for Fremont and Buchanan. A sixth newspaper, the "Utica Morning Herald And Daily Gazette" is the November 8, 1864 issue, election day. This one has a column titled, "Great Wardrobe" and presents the question of the day - who will be the next president. "Some say George McClellan, others say Abraham Lincoln, there seems to be quite a difference of opinion; but all agree upon one thing, which is that Clothing Is Constantly Advancing In Price". A clever advertisement for a clothing store capitalizing on THE question of the day!

Condition: Newspapers are complete and except for typical edge tears, expected light toning and wear, they are in very good condition. The CDV is moderately soiled with wear. One lecture ticket is fine, the other has a slight bend or crease in the central portion, otherwise good condition.
