Description

[Abraham Lincoln Assassination] "Ford's Theatre" Ticket in Leather Case. Housed in a leather case embossed with gilt text and a delicate border at the edge, the exterior reads, "Ford's Theatre. Washington." The interior consists of a sheet of marbled paper in red, blue, and green and a ticket, with the name and dates handwritten. The text states, "The Accompanying Ticket Entitles Mr. Fred" R Jackson Esq. To all Public Representations at Ford's New Theatre, Benefit Entertainments and Operas. From May 5, 1863, until June 5th, 1865. These Ticket are Not Transferable and will only be recognized when Presented by Endorsed Holders." Red fabric frames the marbled page and ticket. The 4" x 2.75" case exhibits wear throughout, particularly at the spine, where the material has begun to separate and tear. The red fabric in the interior is stained and worn, with two holes along the spine and some very minor fraying. The card has minor damp staining and light toning, with a word marked through after "Theatre," assumed to be period. In overall good condition, this would make an excellent addition to a display.
